Our Reception Year children always have busy, activity filled days, as the term progresses, once you have signed up for Tapestry you will be able to see what your child’s day in school looks like.
Our school’s Curriculum Overview Statement shows you the main topics your child will be looking at across the year (see Key Information / Curriculum). Parents will receive a Topic Newsletter giving more details about how and what the children will be learning through their topic (a copy of the Topic Newsletter will also be posted under Key Information / Curriculum).
If you are ‘handing in’ or have any queries around your child’s work or homework you can email your child’s class teacher – h.work@wallisdean-inf.hants.sch.uk
Typical Year R weekly timetable 2025/26
Spring Term
Pirate Dress-Up Day
To launch our new topic, Year R were invited to come to school dressed as pirates!
The children had great fun getting into character and enjoyed listening to pirate stories, going on a treasure hunt and singing pirate songs!
Autumn Term
Sports Workshops : Scooters and Golf
We were so lucky to be able to take part in a scooter workshop and a golf workshop this half term.
The scooter workshop definitely gave us the confidence to become independent to put on our own helmets.
We had to show lots of resilience in the golf workshop to hold our clubs the right way round, and it was really hard to get the ball next to the flag.
Autumn Welly Walks
We have learnt about our sense of sight, smell, hearing and touch as we have explored the Woodland during our first term.
We have made musical instruments, fragrant perfumes, binoculars and explored fruit and vegetables.
People Who Help Us
Year R topic started with People Who Help Us dress-up day.
The children loved diving into the toy boxes and created imaginative role play, helping each other and the teddies and dolls.
We were also very lucky to have visits from some real-life superheroes in our community. We were allowed to look around their vehicles and try on their uniforms.
Woodworking
The children in Year R have begun to learn some wood working skills.
They began by learning to use hammers to put nails into pumpkins, before putting using wood.
They also needed to learn how to use the vices to hold their work still.
Fruit Salad
In Year R we learnt all about eating and then we made a healthy fruit salad, eating fruit from all the colours of the rainbow.
Some of us were confident to try food we had never tried before.
