Trip to the Mary Rose Museum - Spring Term
We had an amazing day visiting the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth.
When we arrived we were amazed to see the remains of Henry VIII's famous warship and to learn about how it was discovered and carefully raised from the sea. As we walked around the museum we looked closely at fascinating artefacts that had been found on board, such as tools, weapons, clothing and even personal belongings of the crew.
We also took part in a brilliant workshop all about life on board the Mary Rose. We found out what sailors ate, how they worked together and what their daily routines were like hundreds of years ago. Some of us even had the chance to dress up and handle replica objects to help us imagine what life might have been like at sea in Tudor times.
Bread Baking - Spring Term
Year 4 we have been designing and baking our own bread, inspired by the food sailors ate on the Mary Rose. We learnt that Tudor sailors ate very plain bread call ship's biscuit, so we decided to make our own versions with extra flavour! We chose from cinnamon and raisin, rosemary and sea salt or garlic and parsley.
Everyone worked hard to mix, knead and bake their dough and the classroom smelt amazing! The finished breads looked and tasted delicious - a tasty way to link our history learning with design and technology.
Christmas Concert - Autumn Term
We had a fantastic time putting on our Year 4 Christmas Concert! We sang festive songs and even wrote our own poems to share with the audience.
It was a fun and creative way to celebrate the season, and we loved performing for our friends and families!
We sang Silent Night, Feliz Navidad and Merry Christmas Everyone
Arcimboldo - Autumn Term
In this fun and creative activity we explored the quirky world of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, the 16th Century artist famous for his portraits made entirely of food, flowers and other natural objects.
Inspired by his unique style, we created our own "food portraits", using fruits, vegetables and other materials. It was a hands-on way to explore water colour art and learn the skills needed to paint realistic fruits, and let our imaginations run wild while learning about this one-of-a-kind artist!
Digestive System - Autumn Term
In our Science lesson we had great fun learning how the digestive system works by making our own "poo"!
We used food, bags and tights to show how the body breaks food down - from chewing in the mouth to churning in the stomach and squeezing through the inestines.
I was messy, funny and helped us see exactly how our bodies turn food into waste!
Skateboarding Workshop - Autumn 1
We were given the opportunity to participate in a skateboarding workshop.
We practised some skills that we learnt last year and then we learnt some new skills and tricks.
We worked in teams to help and support each other.
Art Week - Autumn 1
To start our Year 4 journey, we began with our Art Week Project.
This year we made some clay tiles that were focussed on the Rainforest topic.
The skills that we developed were colour mixing and sculpting techniques. We also looked at some famous sculptures, such as Madam Tussauds, which helped to inspire our designs.
