Art and DT

In Autumn 1 Year 3 learnt the skills of sketching to produce their own picture of a real-life hand inspired by the artist Henry Moore.

First of all we learnt the different ways that you can show cross-hatching and improved upon our shading skills, using a range of sketching pencils. We then applied those skills to drawing our hands in different positions, before creating our final masterpiece.

In DT we explored linkages and levers and how they work together to move parts in different ways.

We learnt about lots of new vocabulary, including loose and fixed pivots, guides, input and output. We applied this knowledge to design and make our own moving body part.

Skateboarding Workshop

Year 3 had a great time learning how to skateboard. We firstly learnt the basics of how to step onto the board and to make it move forward. We then got to try out some exciting tricks, including making the board flip!

Topic: Skull and Crossbones

To launch our Skull and Crossbones topic, Year 3 received a letter from Jim Lad, the pirate.

He had hidden clues for us to follow around the school which led us to a treasure chest full of coins, diamonds, jewels and more!
