Autumn Term
Art Week - In Year 2, we continued our work learning about Romero Britto but built on our previously learnt skills to create a more refined piece of work.
We began by practicing sketching our 3 favourite hobbies which would each have its own colourful section. We then had to pick our 3 vibrant colours to make our artwork stand out.
Once our canvas were painted and our sketches were on, we went over them in black pen just like Romero does. To finish off our piece all about us, we stuck a photo of ourselves in the middle of the design.
Marwell - We had a marvellous day out on our school trip to Marwell Zoo. We enjoyed seeing all of the animals that we have been learning about in class!
We looked carefully at each habitat and saw how they had been designed and adapted so that they suited the animals living in there. We liked learning about how giraffes have 7 vertebra, just like us! Although theirs are MUCH bigger than ours are.
We took part in a workshop with some of the zookeepers who discussed each animals’ adaptations with us. They also answered all the questions we had about some of the animals.
Harvest - This year, KS1 took part in Harvest Carnival Live! We took part in a virtual assembly where we learned how to make a Caribbean soup. We were taken on a tour that showed us how some of the ingredients are harvested and get from the field to the shops. We loved joining in with all the actions and rhymes included.
In addition, the whole of the infants were asked to bring in food donations for our collection that we then gave to St Johns church. The volunteers from the church then donated these kind contributions to Gosport and Fareham's basic food bank for people in need.
Ian, a volunteer from the church, led a lovely service where he talked about what harvest is and why it is important to Christians.
He then told us the Bible story about when Jesus fed the 5000 with bread and fish and that it is important that we look after those in our community.
Soul Band - We were lucky to have the soul band from Cams Hill Secondary school to perform some songs for us. It was their first time performing as a band and they played us four songs. They sang and played 3 soul songs and finished with a Christmas song that we all joined in with. They were very talented!
